city of the Comunidad Autonoma the las islas Baleares. Located in one of
the most beautiful bays of the mediterraneo, has become one of the top
destination for the international tourism, getting to receive about 8
million visitors each year. Its old town conserves the enchantment of
the passage of the centuries of history of invasions and conquests, and
locks up the mystery of the hermetics and traditional societies.
A good choise to began the visit is the Cathedral, emblematic building
of the city, constructed in the same land where the old arabic mesquita
was located, peculiarly, its present altar watches today towards to the
Mecca. Of primitive gotico style, its construction beginning during the
reign of Jaume I, but with a little bit of attention, the visitor would
discover a great amount of details of others styles, like its
Renaissance Greater Vestibule. The famous catalan architect, Antoni
Gaudi, also has left their track, in completes reform made in 1903.
Near the temple, in the dependencies of the Episcopal Palace, the Diosesano Museum is located, with an excellent gotic painting collection.
And opposite to the Cathedral is the Palace of the Almudaina, old palace
of the kings of Mallorca.
Once finished this visit, will be a true pleasure for the visitor to
rest in the wonderful gardens of S' Hort del Rei, who will find between
roses and azaleas interesting sculptures of Miro, Calder and Subirachs.
Once replenished the forces, our route continued by the narrow and
beautiful side streets of the old town, and few steps from here we will
found the Arc of the Almudaina, old door of the ramparted enclosure,
from the late roman periode in the V century. Closely from there, in the Desbrull palace, of XVII century, the Museum of Mallorca exhibits
arqueologics rest of the talayotic era, and from the Muslim and medieval periode, desides, counts on an important collection of art and
interesting ceramics pieces.
But without a doubt one of the most interesting corners to discover are
the arabics baths and their gardens, and the several lordy houses built
between the XV and XVIII centuries, in between them we can emphasize the
Casa de Oleza, of Renaissance style, the baroque Palau solleric, in the
stroll of the Born, that lodges in its interior the Center of Contemporaneo Art, the Casa Berga, today palace of Justice, the gotica
Casa Oleo, the renaissance House of the Marquesses of Palmer, and the
Casa Vivot, baroque palace of XVIII century. The modernist fever also
leave his track in Palma, and during our promenade we will be surprised
for the beauty of several buildings of this style, like the one of the Gran Hotel.
Many plazas sprinkle this city, in the heart of Palma, in plaza de Cort,
the Ayuntamiento is raised, and from Plaza d'Espanya, we will be able to
take the train to Soller and Inca. Near from here we will find the
popular Mercat de L'Olivar, and in Plaza Mayor we also will find a swap-meet
craftsman. The Boulevard, is an pleasantpromenade desides the sea, that
counts with a peatonal sector sprinkled by flowers shops. Four esfinges
guard the entrance to the Paseo del Born, an animated hoisted boulevard
full of cafes, bars and restaurants.
The Passeig Maritim is an authenticate balcony to the mediterraneo, that
is worthed to be walked. The district of Sa Llontja and the Passeig
Maritim, receive a particular brightness by the nights ligths, when the
doors of a great amount of difrent kinds of amussement places are open,
the ofert contemplate all the tastes, elegant bars, fashion
establishments, pure-blooded taverns, restaurants of all the classes, macrodiscotecas... unlimited variety of possibility just oriented to
leisure and fun, in a city that doesn't sleep.
Other zones that particularly in summer are also very crowded by nights
is Platya de Palma, in the turisticas zones of Greater Cove, Dog Tablet, platja de Palma and S'Arenal.
Es Jonquet, an old fishermen district, where there's still a beautiful
set of mills that command a couple of discotecas for young people. |
