The municipality of Ariany covers an area of some 2,272 areas and has a
population of 853 (1997).
The land around Ariany was inhabited since pre-Talayotic times,
according to the archaeological findings. In times of King Jaime I, the
hamlet was already known as Arian, and in the 16th century its property
was passed on to the Cotoner family. The village grew around the houses
of S'Auberg, where the peasants came to pay their taxes. During the War
of Succession, the Cotoner family helped Felipe V and was granted the
title of Marquess of Ariany. |
