Petra, birhtplace of Fray Junípero Serra, America's
evangelist. His house and the museum dedicates to his
memory are the major cultural attractions of the
village. Another museum found in Petra is the converted
Convent of San Bernadí. Strolling through the streets of
this traditional village with less than three thousand
inhabitants is a real pleasure, an encounter with the
genuine Majorcan rural world.
The Museum of Majorca: The museum possesses a
large archaeological, ceramics and paintings collection.
The museum has halls dedicated to Muslim art,
middle-ages art (with important Gothic paintings),
Baroque art and one dedicated to the industrial arts of
the 13th to the 18th centuries. Less important is a hall
dedicated to the 19th and 20th centuries where
paintings, furniture and decorative arts are shown. In
project is the creation of a prehistoric art hall. |
