Santa Ponsa is a town situated in the
south-eastern part of the island. It belongs to the municipality of
Calvià and is basically a tourist centre. This doesn’t mean that it has
no historical background since it was at this precise plane that King
Jaime I landed when de started the conquest of Majorca, a historical
fact remembered in the form of a stone cross erected on the cliffs
facing the sea. The main attraction of this locality, besides the
obvious array of bars and restaurants, is the extensive sandy beach. The
calm waters of this beach allow bathing just a few metres away from the
built up areas.
The Club Nautic de Santa Ponsa (sailing club) meets all the requirements
to stand out as one of Majorca’s finest. It was built taking advantage
of a long and narrow natural harbour, which make this port an ideal
berth for private vessels to dock. Besides these advantageous conditions,
the club is equipped with the most complete and modern nautical
facilities (reserved exclusively for club members). Geographically
speaking, the club is situated in a historical site, since it was at
this very same spot that King Jaime I landed in 1229. A stone cross,
erected on the cliff, commemorates this event |
