Sineu is undoubtedly is the most interesting village in
the centre of the island. King Jaime II had a royal
castle built there. Today hardly anything remains of the
magnificent building. Sineu also has a marvellous
church, the church of “Santa María”, whose staircase is
decorated with a statue of the Lion of “San Marcos”. The
over all architecture of the village is elegant due to
the many palaces built in older times. One of main
attractions of this village is the livestock market held
every Wednesday in the streets and squares. This
livestock market is the most important held on the
island. Sineu is also well known for its cellers (old
wine cellars now days converted into typical Majorcan
restaurants), where one may enjoy the best cuisine of
the island. |
