Sóller is a must for all visitors in Majorca. It is
situated in the heart of the "Serra de Tramuntana"
(mountain range), in a valley bearing the same name,
also known as the valley of the oranges. The many
orchards, which are found, contribute not only in the
naming but also in the beauty of the valley. The
landscape is typically Mediterranean and the mild
weather, together with a pleasant sea breeze and the
freshness of the mountains, is present throughout the
year. There are many cultural attraction too.
The town's centre is worth visiting, as it is a perfect
example of what Majorca used to be. Also interesting are
the museums of the town, especially delightful the
botanical Gardens. The train that travels from Palma
offers a perfect glimpse at the breathtaking landscape.
There is also a traditional tram, which carries visitors
to the Port of Sóller. This port is situated at only
four kilometers from the town's centre and is the
largest in the are. It is located in a privileged
natural bay.
The Port of Sóller offers a combination of beaches and
marina, and yet retains the appearance of an early 20th
century seaside resort. Worth visiting, once in the
port, is the "Torre Picada" (watchtower). It is situated
on the "Costa de la Atalaia" and was used to warn about
attacks and sea enemy landings. Another attraction of
the locality is the varied cuisine offered to the
visitor. This cuisine is deeply rooted to the culture
and traditions of Sóller. A real gift to our palates is
the orange and lemon marmalade, the exquisite ice creams
and the sobrasadas. |
