Valldemossa occupies a privileged area in Majorca's "Serra de Tramuntana"
having the most beautiful village of the island. The village is built on
the mountain on terraces erected with traditional stone walls known as "marjadese".
These constructions mark the landscape and are an unforgettable sight,
which bewitches every year thousands of visitros. Tourism is the town's
major source of income. The town has narrow, enchanting and inclined
streets with houses whose façades are festooned with flowepots and
pi8ctorial tiles, which narrate the life of the local blessed Catalina
Thomàs. The Saint was born in 1533 and the house where she was born
is located next to the church. A delightful itinerary through the town's
history and tradition attracts visitors world-wide. Some of these places
are: the Cartuja, where Chopin and George Sand lived during a winter in
Majorca, the Palace of Rey Sancho and the Chuch of San Bartolomé. The
food specialities of the town are also very appealing. |
